The Powerwall 2 comes in 3 different models:
- DC-Coupled Powerwall 2 for compatible solar systems such as SolarEdge. This system comes with backup functionality and the battery can be recharged from the solar system multiple times during a power outage.
- AC-Coupled Powerwall 2 without backup for any existing solar system including Enphase, SMA, Fronius and ABB inverters.
- AC-Coupled Powerwall 2 with backup (add approx. $1300). This is a different model to the AC-coupled Powerwall so you can’t update to backup after installation. Again, this battery is compatible with any existing solar system, however unlike the DC-Coupled model it can only be cycled once after the grid goes down.

The Tesla Powerwall 2 is an all-in-one solution that uses an internal inverter to convert DC energy to the AC energy required for your home, lowering cost and complexity. The liquid thermal control system regulates Powerwall’s internal temperature to maximize battery performance in any climate.
