The Highest Energy Price. Ever.

Victoria and New South Wales recorded their highest underlying energy price on record, while Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania recorded their second-highest energy prices on record this March quarter 2019 [1]. This follows the average National Electricity Market spot electricity prices on the Australian mainland were the highest on record in the last quarter of 2018 [2]. The highest electricity costs… ever. The incredible thing is this happened despite demand dropping to its lowest level in 2002. So the price hike isn’t driven by everyone suddenly needing more power, we’d bet (and the futures market for energy prices agrees with

Does Solar Increase Your Property Value?

In short, yes solar will increase your property value. By how much? Well, that depends on a number of factors – the size of the installation, the buyers, the area and of course the quality of the installation at the point of sale. In fact, a low-quality solar system on a good quality house can actually detract from the home’s value (buyers may think – if they have skimped on the solar system, what else have they skimped on?) Some estimates have put a high-quality 5kw installation at an increase in property value of $29,000 [1]. An interview with a

Is Solar Power Always Good For The Environment?

We’ll be the first to tell you about how fantastic solar power is for the environment. But are there any circumstances where solar panels and battery storage can be bad for the environment? And how do you avoid the pitfall of buying a bad solar system for the environment? There are huge benefits to the environment of buying solar. You create your own electricity from a renewable energy source – sunlight. Your panels and inverters will convert the sun’s energy to be used in the home. On top of that, any excess energy you generate is fed back into the

The Truth about ‘German Solar’ Panels in Australia

Are German Solar panels in Australia the best on the market and are they worth the money? German companies are renowned for their high standards of manufacturing, and this was particularly true in the solar industry. Buying a panel from a company such as Q Cells or Solar World was a reliable way of ensuring you were buying a quality system, without delving into the mysterious world of Chinese solar manufacturing to try and differentiate one panel from the next. Unfortunately, however, all of the main German manufacturers are now either making their panels in Asia or do not have a

How Does Solar Power Reduce Your Power Bill?

How Does Solar Power Reduce Your Power Bill? I nearly got myself into trouble this week. A customer asked me how much cheaper his quarterly power bill would be after his solar feed-in tariff in NSW is applied. My answer was: “around $20… $30 if you are really unlucky.” Luckily he didn’t hang up! He asked: “So you expect me to pay thousands of dollars for a solar system to save $30 a quarter?” Not quite… A number of people new to solar power get confused by feed-in tariffs and where the real benefit of solar power lies. So let’s

The Price of a 20kW Solar System for Commercial Solar Projects

A 20kW solar system has now become a standard-sized solar system for small to medium-sized businesses looking to reduce their operating costs by powering their daytime electricity consumption from solar power. Uptake of commercial solar installations in Australia has grown rapidly over the last two years thanks to a significant government rebate of approximately $12,000 on a 20kW system, and because the cost of solar power is now significantly cheaper than buying power from the grid for the vast majority of Australian businesses. This article will provide a brief overview of the price of a 20kW solar system, potential power
