The Australian Labor Party has announced today that they will take a target of 50% renewable energy by 2030 to the next election. This is great news for renewable energy in Australia and more specifically for residential solar power, which is set to play a key role in Australia’s energy mix over the coming decades.
Renewable Energy has been in the spotlight of late, however, Abbott government’s ideological opposition to renewable energy could now end up costing it votes at the next federal election.
With over 12 months of uncertainty surrounding the future of residential solar rebates, today is a day to celebrate the hard work of many thousands of industry participants who are campaigning for the solar industry.
In particular, Solar Citizens has run a successful ‘Stand Up For Solar’ campaign. The National Director of Solar Citizens, Claire O’Rourke states:
“Thousands of Solar Citizens from across the country have taken action, with the first step to call on their local Labor MPs to Stand Up For Solar and endorse our plan for at least 50% renewables by 2030.
“And it’s paid off! With today’s announcement, Labor has set a new bar for a visionary and ambitious debate on solar and renewables in the lead up to the next Federal Election.”
The is plenty of work left to do, and we could do with your help. If you would like to make your voice heard you can sign up to Solar Citizens here. We look forward to a bright and sunny future of renewable energy in Australia, and with battery storage now on the horizon, we are excited to be a key player in the revolution that has begun.
