LG Solar to wrap up solar panel production
The recent announcement from LG marked a big loss for the solar industry coming from one of our long-term solar partners, as LG Electronics announced the decision to close down solar panel production and sales during the 2nd quarter of 2022.
LG’s Australian General Manager of Solar & Energy Gus Paviani confirmed that, “LG Electronics Australia will continue to provide warranty and after sales support for LG solar panels for the warranty period and in accordance with applicable regulations.”
Lim added that beyond the end of panel production in June, “LG will continue to stand behind its brand and cover modules through the period of warranty. By continuing to provide after-sales service after closing down our [solar panel] business, we will strive to minimise consumer inconvenience.”
Solaray has been a proud partner with LG, featuring LG’s NeON 2, MonoX, MonoX Plus, NeON R, NeON H and this year’s latest addition the NeON H+ as a core part of our panel offering over the years.
LG Solar Panels in Australia
In 2009 LG created its first solar panel, and since then has gone on to win the Intersolar Award in 2013, 2015 and 2016 for its innovations. In 2021, LG was also named Australia’s Most Trusted Brand (solar panels category) for the second year in a row, as part of the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Awards. More than 3,000 Australians mentioned LG’s solar panel performance, build quality and reliability.
LG solar has consistently been the first manufacturer to break records when it comes to panel power.
A 415W residential solar panel is an incredible leap forwards, it seems like only yesterday we broke the 300W panel barrier.
Previous generations of the LG NeON panel have been our #1 seller for many years, and we are expecting the NeON H+ to be just as popular, with households able to make the most of their available roof space with much larger systems.
The NeON H+ is just one of the panels available from LG and although it is the most powerful, there may be other LG panels that suit your budget and power consumption habits better.
This ultimate LG Solar panel guide is designed to help you make that educated decision. Feel free to get in touch and our friendly team will be more than happy to discuss your needs further.

LG Solar Panel Prices
The old adage you get what you pay for certainly rings true in the world of solar. Getting solar done right the first time without cutting corners means selecting the best quality panel for your needs, an installation by reputable installers, and a warranty that actually means something (more on this in our warranty section below).
The other factor you may want to consider is whether or not a smart solar system is right for you. A smart solar system ensures your solar power is working efficiently at all times and is earning you the best return on your investment. It does of course come at an extra cost so you’ll need to consider how that impacts your budget.
Below is a rough indicator of what you can expect to spend on a quality LG solar panel installation by a reputable installer. Please keep in mind that prices can vary depending on the installation, so please talk to our team for more personalised information and pricing.

LG Solar Panels Review
When reviewing solar panels and comparing which brand or panel out of the hundreds available is the best, it’s actually quite easy. At Solaray, we look at a combination of all the important criteria, including:
- Output or Yield
- Efficiency
- Reliability
- Safety
- Warranty
- Cost
We cover all of these criteria on this page, but let’s look at output, longevity and reliability in more depth, below:
Output or Yield
Most customers purchase a solar power system with the intention of reducing their power bills, so why then do so many people pay a premium for top-of-the-range solar panels?
Well, ultimately the most important feature of a solar panel is how much energy it produces over a long period of time. LG’s own data show that NeON panels can deliver around 9 to 15% more energy per year, every year, for the life of the system, compared to a cheaper, similarly-specified panel.
In addition, independent testing from organisations such as CHOICE and DVL GL, a global environmental quality company, consistently show the LG NeON panels deliver more energy and therefore more savings than any of the other panels tested. Of course, Choice Magazine now has LG solar panels on the roof.
Longevity and Durability
The graph below shows just how important it is to choose a top-quality solar panel, and how it can save you tens of thousands of dollars over the life of the system:

The graph above shows the LG NeON 2 Panels vs. Standard Panels. The total income up to this year and the kWh generated is comparatively doubled when purchasing LG NeON 2 panels.
Not all solar panels are built to the same standards, and many manufacturers simply don’t come close to the LG build quality.
In Australia, we regularly see cheaper solar panels failing in as little as 3-5 years, right when you would expect to be seeing a return on your money. Reasons for failure typically are to do with poor manufacturing quality with the main issues for low performance including hot spots, corrosion, water ingress, failed bypass diodes, poor sealants, delamination and microcracks.
Cyclone Wind Load Resistance
LG solar panels have a strong double-walled frame. When it comes to wind forces (rear load) many solar panels are certified to 2400 Pascals. LG panels are certified to 4000 Pascal, which can handle the wind load of a 290 km per hour wind.
Independent wind load tests were conducted in Darwin in 2018 and 2019 where LG panels resisted successfully wind loads as high as 350 km per hour. This testing demonstrates that LG panels are one of the strongest on the market.
Reliability
Reliability is one of the most important criteria to consider when shopping in the market for solar panels. A good question to ask yourself, is, “Will the panels last as long as they’re meant to, and, how often do they fail?”
By the time that LG had installed 360,000 solar systems in Australia, only 9 had been returned – mostly due to poor installation.
At the end of the day, a solar system is only as reliable as its installer. A recent audit by the Australian National Audit Office, ANAO, found that one in six solar installations were sub-standard and additional reports showed that 30% of customers reported problems with their solar company.
Even the Clean Energy Council found that an incredible one in five solar systems were deficient or defective. Worse, NSW Fire and Rescue put out 30 house fires in one three month period alone in 2020 – all caused by non-compliant solar installations. Even the best products installed poorly can fail to perform or worse, be a fire risk.
Solaray Energy has tens of thousands of systems installed, and we still today service all of them. We’d like to say our track record speaks for itself, with hundreds of reviews on Trustpilot and a 4.9 star rating.

The LG NeON has been awarded Australia’s Best Panel, year after year.
LG Solar Panel Warranty
Extended Product Warranty Backed By The Largest Consumer Brand In Solar
LG Solar offers one of the most valuable solar panel warranties in the solar industry, with a 25-year warranty for the LG NeON H panel range. This parts and labour warranty is a full replacement warranty, meaning everything is covered in the case of a warranty claim including labour, shipping and the replacement panel(s).
The warranty is provided by the LG Electronics subsidiary in Australia. Therefore, you will be dealing with the LG Australia office in Eastern Creek, Sydney for any warranty claims – not an overseas company.
LG Solar provides you with a 25 years manufacturer’s warranty on NeON modules (parts and labour). As LG is a diversified manufacturer, any warranty from LG is backed up by multiple income streams, an important factor during the uncertain times of the solar industry. Subject to the terms of the warranty document, LG will for a period of twenty-five (25) years for the NeON range from the date of installation authorise a free of charge repair or replacement of the module, for a manufacturing defect.
LG offers you a transferable warranty, so if you sell your property, the warranty transfers to the new owner.
Not All Solar Warranties are Created Equally
LG’s Solar Panel warranty compares very favourably to the 10, 12, 15 or even 25-year manufacturer’s warranty offered by manufacturers who do not have the financial strength of a company like LG.
There is no value in a long warranty if the company backing it will not be around to honour it, and this is a very real risk – check out how many installers are no longer around:
This is only set to continue due to the nature of Chinese manufacturing and larger economic factors, but it’s bad enough already with an estimated 1 in 3 solar systems in Australia now unsupported.
When you are buying a solar module from LG you are dealing with an international company that has the capacity and longevity to provide a reliable backup and makes their warranties count.

25-Year Power Output Guarantee
As well as the 25-year product warranty, LG solar panels come with a 25-year power output guarantee.
LG panels include a 25 Year Limited Warranty for Power Output. In this warranty, LG firstly guarantees that for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase the actual power output of the module will be no less than 98% of the labelled power output. This is much less energy loss than the Industry standard.
Also, from the second year, the actual power output will decline annually by no more than 0.3% for a period of the remaining 24 years. By year 25 LG panels are warrantied to still supply at least 90.8% of their original performance. Again this is less loss than standard solar panels. Of course, with cheap Chinese panels, the loss is very rapid.
In 2015, the Federal Environment Minister requested an urgent review of panel quality with cheaper panels lasting only five to seven years despite government rebate support being based on an average panel life of 15 years.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I buy LG solar panels?
The Australian market is extremely fractured and solar companies come and go because it’s a booming market and it’s a way to get rich quick. Did you know, there have been over 750 solar installation companies who have had a change in trading conditions, gone into liquidation or simply stopped trading since 2011? (LG Energy).
Unfortunately for the vast majority of them, if something goes wrong with the system customers have no support and no warranty.
Trying to make sense of solar is difficult. However, buying solar is not just about price, it’s about ensuring it works, and that it is safe for decades. Solaray Energy is an award-winning solar installer, and we have been installing solar and batteries longer than just about any other retailer in Australia. That means, we know what works and we know how to make it work.
Chat to our friendly team today, we’ll provide you with:
- Good advice
- Clear communication
- Highly competitive pricing
- Great service
- No high-pressure sales tactics.
Why is having an Australian based office location important?
The office location of the manufacture is extremely important. Relying on your solar installer is not always an option, with LG Energy reporting over 750 solar installation companies that have gone out of business since 2011
So, what happens when something goes wrong? Products fail every now and then (less so with the good ones), and mistakes do happen. With LG Solar, you won’t be left trying to contact a Chinese office to claim your warranty. So, make sure you ask questions like:
- Who do I call if there’s an issue?
- Is it just the general number?
- Do you have dedicated support staff?
- Do you use call centres? And if you do, where are they physically located
Are LG solar panels worth it?
Did you know that solar systems are meant to last for around 30 years? This means you get the maximum financial benefit and the maximum environmental impact.
Unfortunately, many of the solar systems being sold today are lucky to last 5 years. Not all solar panels are created equal. That’s why choosing “the best” or a “good” solar panel is worth both the time and the extra money it costs now to save much more down the track later.
Out of the hundreds of panels available in the market, we simply look at criteria including output, efficiency, reliability, safety, warranty and cost.
We strongly believe LG Solar is the clear leader in the industry. If you are looking for high quality, reliable panels, many Australian customers would agree that LG panels are a wise investment.
